Hi Brett, I assume your speaking of the monosynth like resonant melody that comes in at about 1:03 into the song, "Choice" by Orbital... Anyway it is definitely a monophonic analog synth (knowing them). I've been able to pretty accurately recreate that sound on a Roland SH-101, however the Moog Prodigy, OSCar or even a BassStation can reproduce a very similar sound. I don't know what gear you have but here are the settings I have on the Roland SH-101 which you can use as a guide to programming the sound. The slider data I will give is on a scale from 0 to 10 where 0 would be the slider (or knob) turned all the way down or off, 5 would be the middle position and 10 would be maxxed! LFO Rate: 5 LFO Wave form: square VCO Modulation: 0 VCO Range: 4' VCO Pulsewidth: 0 VCO1: Square wave, amount: 9 VCO2: Ramp or Saw wave, amount: 2 VCO Sub-Osc: 0 VCO Noise: 0 VCF Freq: 8 VCF Res: 1 VCF Env: 0 VCF Mod: 1 VCF Kybd: 5 VCA: switched to Envelope and to Gate + Trigger VCA Attack: 0 VCA Decay: 10 VCA Sustain: 10 VCA Release: 0 Portamento: ON Portamento amount: 1 Pitch Bender LFO MOD Amount: 5 These settings work on the SH-101, but are only a guide for use on other monophonic bass-synths. I was jamming along with the song and my SH-101 for at least 30 minutes, it was fun! The pitch bender settings listed above works great for the modulating hi F at 4:10. Have fun, and good luck! -- Matt Friedman ...................................................>> The Vintage Synth Explorer http://www.vintagesynth.com
