Artist Profile: Überzone

ÜBER
ZONE

Überzone. What does it mean? It could mean 'Q'. It could mean 'Timothy Wiles'. However, to many it means fierce electronic beats and breaks embedded in lush analog music! 'Q' (also known as Timothy Wiles) is the man behind Überzone. A 'band' that has been stirring up the underground rave scene as well as the mainstream since 1995. Most of Überzone's releases are 12 inch singles that always top the want-lists of many DJs. Each of his releases have been featured on various compilations and DJ mix CDs. Making his music from his studio, The Institute of Gizmology in Fullerton, Uberzone is redefining a great new sound for Southern Californian electronic music.

2 Cool 4 Skool - In this latest release Uberzone has teamed up with Africa Bambata and the Soulsonic Force for the most evolved, complex and cool electro-funky-beats ever. Just listen to it, incredible synth sounds, very warm bass sounds, funky breaks and great beats!!! It just keeps gettin' better and better! From: 2 Cool 4 School E.P. (© 1999, Caroline)

Botz (synthetic) - Blazingly fierce analog sounds from the Jupiter, crispy electro 808 and 909 beats supply the groove for a 303-based track that has become an electro-rave-house anthem due to its perfectly timed builds and breaks plus incredible sounds and an instant groove.

Überzone is known not only for great music but also, incredible live performances. 'Q' prefers to actually perform his music live and in interaction with the crowd. Thereby creating new and exciting different mixes for each performance. "I chose to play live for integrity, not to mention the fact that there are very few parts that are possible to play....so by playing totally live, I get the opportunity to play the mix... It's almost more of a D.J. set really. I also have the ability to do live tweaking on the synths, define custom timed delays on any channel and basically re-mix the track in front of the crowd. By playing the mix this way I can direct the intensity of the music as it relates to the audience. So the mix almost becomes an expressionistic instrument in of itself. I also play the live MIDI percussion and effects over the top to try and generate some physical energy during my set."*

The Freaks - Showcasing some of his sampling-editing prowess, Überzone offers this hit single of electro-breakbeats with more complex rhythms, synth sounds and grooves. This is not you're average house music, but the dancefloors just love this stuff!

Creating music with technical and sonic perfection in mind, 'Q' is surrounded by an impressive set of musical gear. Q says, "I count each piece of gear as a band member, and each one has its own personality. I couldn't do what I do without the help of each one."** There's also tons of outboard gear and recording equipment. Q's hi-tech sound and snappy grooves stem from his earlier musical roots. He has long been a Drummer and Recording/Mixing Engineer. Though he may not churn out a 14 song album every 2 years, Q of Uberzone is dedicated to creating precise electronic beats that transcend the barriers of musical genres.

Moondusted - Picking up where 'Botz' leaves off, Moondusted is yet another 303-based electro track with more melodic and impressive synths and sounds from the Jupiters, the 303, 808, 909, Sequential Pro One and tons more.
